Kevin Porter Jr., Houston Rockets guard faces charges of second-degree assault and strangulation after he was arrested for attacking his girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick in New York.
NYPD reported that when they reached the scene the female, 26, had a cut on the right side of her face, and an initial investigation specified she was hit numerous times.
Kysre Gondrezick – the WNBA player – was carried to the hospital with at least one broken bone and bruising after the alleged assault, which happened overnight on Monday at the Millennium Hotel near Times Square, according to NBC.
Porter was taken to central booking after he was arrested and charged with attacking her.
It’s claimed that the assault escalated after Porter Jr. was locked out of their hotel room. Hotel security was called before the police were alerted.
According to reports, Porter Jr. had returned from a night out in the early hours of Monday morning. Gondrezick, who was not happy with how late he had come back, locked the door with Porter Jr. and remained outside of the room.
Once the NBA player unlocked the room, with the help of hotel security, he allegedly attacked Gondrezick. It is reported by ABC that Porter is in the custody of the New York Police.
In a statement, the Rockets said they are ‘in the procedure of collecting information surrounding the matter,’ and a probe is continuing.
This is not first crime of Porter. In 2020, while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Porter was captured on a weapons charge and driving without a license.
Since February of 2022, Porter and Gondrezick have been dating. She posted to X, previously known as Twitter, sharing photos from their first anniversary.
