In a celebration of their stellar achievements and exceptional performances, football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have secured spots among the 23 nominees for FIFPro’s World XI 2023. The coveted list, curated by over 28,000 professional football players through the FIFPro organization, stands as a testament to the players’ recognition of their peers’ extraordinary contributions to the sport.

The unique distinction of FIFPro’s World XI lies in being the only international football award exclusively determined by players. Eligibility criteria, as reported by Sportskeeda, must be met before players are considered for this prestigious recognition.

The awards ceremony, scheduled for January 15, 2024, in London, will scrutinize participants’ performances over an extensive eight-month period, ranging from August 20, 2023, to December 19, 2022.

The selection of the starting eleven is a pivotal process, with peers casting their votes for one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three strikers. The outfield player with the highest votes among the initial nine selections will clinch the final position in the starting lineup.

As the football world eagerly anticipates the unveiling of FIFPro’s World XI, the race for FIFA’s “The Best Men’s Player of the Year” has narrowed down to Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland, forming the final three-man shortlist.

Notably, the shortlist for the FIFPro World XI, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo representing Al Nassr, is a testament to the players’ choice and acknowledgment of excellence within the football fraternity.

The diverse list comprises three exceptional goalkeepers—Thibaut Courtois, Emiliano Martinez, and Emerson—alongside six defenders, seven midfielders, and seven strikers. Renowned defenders, including Ruben Dias, John Stones, Kyle Walker, Antonio Rudiger, Virgil Van Dijk, and Eder Militao, have rightfully earned their positions on this illustrious roster.

As anticipation builds for the awards event, football enthusiasts around the globe eagerly await the revelation of FIFPro’s World XI, recognizing and celebrating the outstanding talents that have left an indelible mark on the beautiful game.
