Tonight’s WWE SmackDown is the first WWE broadcast since the unfortunate death of Windham Rotunda, known as Bray Wyatt. Tonight’s show honored the life of the former WWE Champion with a 10-bell salute for Hall of Famer, Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt to begin the show. Later on in the show, Funk and Wyatt were beautifully praised by Cody Rhodes.
The leader of the Wyatt family was passed away yesterday, Wyatt passed away yesterday, and the unfortunate news was broken by Triple H, WWE’s Chief Content Officer. The wrestling universe has surged social media with tributes to the beloved superstar, while Tonight’s show paid a heartwarming tribute to Bray Wyatt.
Rob Fee, Bray Wyatt collaborator and WWE Director of Long-Term Creative posted on Twitter to promise that tonight would be “very special.”
Michael Cole, the commentator of SmackDown said, ‘Tonight on Friday Night Smackdown, we will celebrate their legacy and celebrate their lives. The lives of two incredible men who have touched all of us, with their passion, their creativity, and their spirit.’
The likes of Triple H, Cody Rhodes, Bobby Lashley and Erick Rowan, AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and other superstars bowed their heads while memorizing the two Greatest athletes.
Tonight’s show also carried a separate tribute only for Bray Wyatt, who formerly reigned as its Tag Team champion along with Luke Harper, who died in 2020 after a long fight with a mysterious lung illness, and Randy Orton under the Freebird Rule.
After displaying a montage of his most pleasing moments in the WWE, cameras moved to an empty wooden chair he was famous for sitting in before fans broke out into a poignant version of his theme song:
Bray Wyatt died on Thursday at 36. The cause of his death was revealed as a heart attack after a case of COVID-19 worsened problems with his heart earlier this year.
