Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received an invitation to attend King Charles III’s coronation – despite their strained relationship with the royal family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spokesperson confirmed the reports and said the couple “recently received email correspondence” regarding King Charles’ coronation.
“An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.” the couple’s spokesperson said in a statement.
Their relationship has been strained since the couple stepped down from their senior royal duties in January 2020. But the relation with royal family have remained strained in the wake of Prince Harry’s memoir where he chronicles issues with family members including his father, Charles, and older brother, Prince William.
Meanwhile, In an interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby surrounding the book, Harry said of the coronation, “There’s a lot that can happen between now and then. But, you know, the door is always open. The ball is in their court. There’s a lot to be discussed, and I really hope that they are willing to sit down and talk about it.”
Charles will be formally crowned on May 6 at London’s Westminster Abbey, nearly nine months after he ascended the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
