Jay Shah, the President of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tweeted on Wednesday, so he can announce the 2023 schedule of Asia Cup, which will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The tournament was initially scheduled to begin on August 31, which is now planned to kick off on August 30. While in the kickoff match, Nepal will take on the host, Pakistan in Multan.
But not like last year, this year’s Asia Cup will be played in 50-overs format and it will feature 13 matches. There will be 2 groups, A and B, Pakistan, India, and Nepal will be in group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will be in group B.
The top two teams from both stages will qualify for Super Four, where they will play to get a spot in the final on September 17 in Colombo.
Bangladesh will play against Afghanistan in Lahore on September 3, while on September 5 Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan in Lahore. Irrespective of where they finish in the first round, Pakistan will retain the A1 spot, India the A2 spot, Sri Lanka will be B1, and Bangladesh B2.
The only Super 4s match listed to take place in Pakistan is on September 6, including Group A (A1) winners and Group B (B2) runners-up. If Pakistan and India get into Super Four, then we can expect a thrilling final on September 10 in Colombo.
