On Monday, White House’s former chef passed away while paddle boarding near the summer home of former US president Barack Obama, Massachusetts State Police said.

The body of Tafari Campbell was recovered by divers in a lake on Martha’s Vineyard’s island.

Campbell was the personal chef of the Obama family.

A 45-year-old had been paddle boarding on Sunday when he was missing under the lake.

Massachusetts State Police said in a statement that the local police answered a call for a paddle boarder who had dived into the lake, seemed to briefly struggle to remain on the surface, and then dipped and did not resurface.

The dead body was found in the morning after being searched for the whole night. At the time of the accident the US former President Obama and his wife were not at home, local police said.

In a statement related to the Obama family, the Obama family said that their “hearts are broken that he’s gone” and called Campbell “a beloved part of our family.”
