On Friday, the Estonian opposition and mainstream media called for the resignation of Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas after it appeared that a firm partly owned by her husband was continuing to serve in Russia.
On Wednesday, ERR, a public broadcaster that the transportation firm Stark Logistics, which is partly owned by Arvo Hallik, Kallas’s husband, had continued deliveries to Russia after the beginning of the battle with Ukraine.
The United States and the European Union have imposed unusual sanctions against Russia to limit Moscow’s capability to fund its war effort since the attack in February 2022.
The firm had only one Estonian customer, Metaprint, which is now in the process of shutting its plant in Russia, Stark Logistics said. It added that Stark Logistics was creating deliveries to support the closing up of the site.
The party was beginning conversations on a no-confidence motion against Kallas, the opposition Centre Party said
While Isamaa, another opposition party said she had “no other choice but to resign immediately”.
However, on Friday few others also called for her to quit.
My husband’s company was aiding one of its Estonian clients “by the laws and sanctions imposed”, Kallas said.
Arvo Hallik, husband of Kallas, said that he would immediately sell his shares in Stark Logistics and withdraw from the firm. He added that his wife was “not aware” of his work.
