On Wednesday, the Ukrainian SBU security service searched the home of Ukraine’s MP who went to the Maldives for holiday trips despite war-time restrictions on officials traveling for personal causes.
According to investigators, Yuriy Aristov traveled to Lithuania for an official trip, but then he submitted fake sick leave and booked his room in a luxurious hotel in the Maldives with his family.
Aristov faked his trip and guised his trip under a business trip, SBU said. A report disclosed his faked trip, activating a vehement reaction from the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky said that for some Ukrainians, it’s about the trip to islands and resort to the war-time, while for others, it’s about lining pockets in the military enlistment office, and for others, it’s about bribes in the courts. Any interior disloyalty, any ‘beach’ or any personal enrichment instead of Ukraine’s interests begins to rage, he added.
The State Bureau of Investigation said that the case investigators unfolded the case on charges of fraud that led to three years of detention.
The Parliament of Ukraine is set to vote on Aristov’s resignation, who is also the deputy chairman of the Committee on National Security, Defence, and Intelligence.
