As the world eagerly awaits the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, new details have been released providing a glimpse of the coronation robes that the royal couple will be wearing on the big day.
According to tradition, the King and Queen will wear two different sets of robes during the Coronation Service – the Robes of State and the Robes of Estate. The Robes of State will be worn on arrival at Westminster Abbey, while the Robes of Estate will be worn on departure, following the Coronation Service, and are traditionally more personalised in design.
The Royal School of Needlework’s embroidery team is currently conserving The King’s Robe of State, which will be worn by King Charles on arrival at Westminster Abbey, and The Queen Consort’s Robe of Estate, which will be worn by Queen Camilla after she is crowned, on departure from Westminster Abbey. The Queen Consort became the Patron of the Royal School of Needlework in 2017.
New images have been released showing the intricate designs of the robes, which have been beautifully crafted by the Royal School of Needlework’s embroidery team. The robes are made from the finest materials and feature detailed embroidery that is fit for a king and queen.
The images provide a first glimpse of what the royal couple will be wearing on the day of the coronation. All four robes will be seen in full on the day of the ceremony.
The coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla is set to be a historic event, and the release of these new details only adds to the excitement surrounding the occasion. As the world watches on, we can only imagine the grandeur and beauty that will be on display when the King and Queen don their magnificent robes and take their place in Westminster Abbey.
