The return of Prince Harry to the United Kingdom has reportedly raised worries among members of the Royal Family that he will pull attention away from the first death anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Duke of Sussex will be in the UK on September 7 for the WellChild Awards, a day before the Windsors join the country to mark one year since Queen Elizabeth II passed away at 96.
Esther Krakue, the writer and broadcaster, told Sky News Australia that Prince Harry’s presence in Britain poses a fear to the royal family.
She said that one of the problems is that his being here (in the UK) – him delivering that speech at the WellChild Awards, might pull attention away from the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death to whatever moves Harry has going on.
Even if he doesn’t do anything controversial, even if he arrives just in the capacity of a secret citizen and just delivers his speech and goes off to Düsseldorf for his engagements… There will be media watch around him, Krakue added.
After the Duke of Sussex delivered his speech at the WellChild gala, Harry will travel to Düsseldorf, Germany, for the Invictus Games.
Harry could attend events throughout the games alongside his wife Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, before giving a speech at the closing ceremony on September 16.
Krakue added that the problem is especially whether he will somehow see a path to pull media attention to himself and take it away from things that concern, which is something that I believe the Firm as a whole is concerned of, not just especially members of the Royal Family.
