Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have become one of Hollywood’s most adored couples, consistently serving major relationship goals with their public appearances. From Blanco’s heartfelt proposal to their seamless musical chemistry on their latest album, I Said I Love You First, the duo’s connection continues to captivate fans.
However, the music producer recently revealed that their romance didn’t begin as smoothly as many might think.
During an appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast to promote their joint album, Blanco made a surprising confession—he initially thought Gomez disliked him.
“I thought she hated me,” the 37-year-old admitted, before clarifying that it was merely his own assumption.
Blanco, whose real name is Benjamin Levin, went on to share that at the start of their friendship, he had no romantic intentions. Instead, he had considered introducing the Same Old Love singer to some of his single male friends.
“In the beginning, we were just exchanging ideas about the perfect date,” he explained. “I just wanted her to be part of our friend group.”
Despite the unconventional start, their bond has only strengthened over time, leading to both a successful personal and professional partnership.
Ahead of the album’s release, the couple dropped three singles: Scared of Loving You, Call Me When You Break Up, and Sunset Blvd., all of which have been well received by fans.
