Chris Hemsworth has shared the reasons behind his decision to leave Hollywood and return to Australia, calling it the “greatest decision” for him and his family.
The Thor actor revealed that he and his wife, Elsa Pataky, made the move shortly after welcoming their twin sons, Sasha and Tristan.
“We kind of were set up in LA and not enjoying it, you know,” Hemsworth said. “Like nothing was shooting there. We were filming kind of everywhere else.”
Life Back in Australia
Since relocating in 2014, the family has settled on a coastal estate in northern New South Wales. Hemsworth described the home as a place that feels like a holiday, offering space, privacy, and access to nature.

“You know, when you come back from work, you wanna go on a holiday. We have a big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf,” he explained. These surroundings allow the couple to give their children—including daughter India Rose—wholesome experiences reminiscent of his own upbringing.
Staying Close to Family and Roots
The move also brought Hemsworth closer to his roots, joining his brothers, Liam Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, who have also chosen to live in Australia.
For Chris, stepping away from Hollywood was more than a career choice—it was a lifestyle decision that prioritizes family, privacy, and well-being.
