In a recent interview with Variety, the Oppenheimer star didn’t hold back when discussing the importance of professionalism during high-budget film productions.

“It’s the Basic Unit of Your Job”

Ehrenreich explained that he has witnessed situations where even well-established actors arrive on set without knowing their lines, something he says disrupts the entire production process.

He pointed out that on large-scale sets, where scenes involve expensive setups and coordinated timing, preparation is essential.

“When people don’t know their lines, it affects everyone,” he implied, highlighting the ripple effect on crews and production schedules.

The “Keep It Fresh” Excuse

The actor also addressed a common justification some performers reportedly use—that avoiding memorization helps keep performances spontaneous.

While acknowledging that it may work for some, Ehrenreich said he does not agree with the approach, especially when it delays filming and impacts the crew.

Impact on Entire Productions

According to Ehrenreich, unprepared performances don’t just affect actors—they can push back shooting schedules and increase production costs, particularly when big-name stars are involved.

He suggested that in such cases, crew members and producers often feel unable to intervene due to the actor’s status.

A Rare Industry Critique

Ehrenreich’s comments add to ongoing conversations in Hollywood about professionalism, work ethic, and expectations on set—especially in high-budget productions where timing is critical.

While he did not name specific individuals, his remarks have sparked discussion across the industry about accountability and preparation standards.
