Cate Blanchett Teases Bigger Role in Possible English Version of Squid Game

Cate Blanchett has sparked excitement among fans after hinting that she would be open to taking a bigger role in an English-language adaptation of Squid Game.

The two-time Oscar winner made a surprise appearance in the third season of the hit South Korean drama, portraying a mysterious American recruiter. The cameo, she admits, left her wanting more. Speaking to Variety, the 56-year-old actress said she was “wildly open to anything” when asked if she would consider returning for a sequel or spin-off aimed at English-speaking audiences.

Praising the show’s creators for crafting a world that has captivated millions worldwide, Blanchett noted that Squid Game’s cultural impact has reached virtually every corner of the globe.

Industry speculation has hinted at the possibility of director David Fincher — who worked with Blanchett on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button — being involved in an English adaptation. While Blanchett said she would “love to work with him again,” she emphasized that she has no knowledge of such a project currently in the works.

Her appearance on Squid Game was arranged in total secrecy. With no time for a costume fitting, Blanchett wore a suit from her own wardrobe. She was given only a few storyboards and learned the game sequence on the spot, rehearsing until she perfected it. Calling it “one of the more mysterious jobs” of her career, the actress reflected fondly on the experience.

Beyond Squid Game, Blanchett expressed her eagerness to take on more television work, particularly in established and high-profile series.
