Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s romance has become one of Hollywood’s most beloved love stories, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing for the couple. In a recent interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Gwen opened up about a pivotal moment when she nearly ended their relationship.
The pair first sparked a connection in 2015 while working as coaches on The Voice. Their chemistry was undeniable, but behind the scenes, Gwen struggled with the idea of moving forward with Blake.
“There was a point where I thought, ‘I can’t even talk to you. This is insane. I already have enough problems,’” Gwen candidly shared. “This is not happening anymore. We’re not going to text or anything.”
Despite Gwen’s reservations, Blake wasn’t ready to let go. Determined to win her heart, he turned to music—a passion they both share. Gwen explained, “I think he really wanted to impress me because he doesn’t write songs as much as he used to. And I love writing songs. That’s everything to me.”
For Gwen, songwriting holds a deeply personal significance. “If I want to feel like I have any kind of purpose or value, it’s about writing a song,” she said.
Blake’s persistence led to their first creative collaboration. In 2016, he sent Gwen a half-written song and asked for her help to complete it. The result was their emotional duet, Go Forward and Break My Heart.
“He sent it to me, and it was a half-written song,” Gwen recalled. “He was like, ‘Help me finish this.’ So I wrote him the second verse back — just over text.”
The experience not only marked the beginning of their songwriting partnership but also strengthened their bond. “That was the first song we ever wrote together,” Gwen revealed.
Their shared love for music and each other has been a cornerstone of their relationship, culminating in their marriage in 2021. Fans continue to admire their journey, celebrating how the power of love and creativity brought them closer together.
