Marissa Bode, who plays Nessa in the upcoming Wicked film series, recently revealed one of the most cleverly hidden Easter eggs in the movie. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bode shared an interesting detail about her character’s iconic silver slippers. The wardrobe team designed the heels of the slippers to feature a spiral, which symbolizes the tornado—a key element in her character’s fate.
In L. Frank Baum’s original Wizard of Oz novel, Nessa, the Wicked Witch of the East, meets her tragic end when Dorothy’s house, carried by a tornado summoned by the wizard, lands on her at the start of the story. The silver slippers, which hold special significance in the tale, reflect this tragic event in a subtle yet meaningful way, thanks to the spiral heel design.

Bode also gave a glimpse into the sequel, Wicked: For Good, and how it will address the aftermath of Elphaba’s villainization. The sequel will delve into how these events affect those closest to her, especially her sister, Nessa. “You can see all of us taking that in,” Bode said, reflecting on the end of the first Wicked film. “And what that means to us. It’s just processing in that moment. ‘Is this true? Is this really true? This can’t be true because I know my sister.'”
While avoiding major spoilers, Bode teased that the sequel would allow more time for the characters to process the fallout and explore how they react—whether with resentment or understanding—toward Elphaba’s transformation.
Fans will have to wait until November 21, 2025, to see the sequel, Wicked: For Good, which promises to dive deeper into the emotional complexity of the characters and their journeys.
