Meghan Markle Ditches “Sussex” in New Podcast, Introducing Herself Simply as “Meghan”

Meghan Markle has made a surprising change in her public identity, opting to introduce herself without using either “Markle” or “Sussex” in the debut episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder. Instead of using her full name, Meghan introduced herself simply as “I’m Meghan,” marking a clear departure from the titles she used.

This move comes just a month after Meghan caused a stir during an appearance on Netflix’s With Love, Meghan when she told Mindy Kaling, “You know I’m Sussex now,” as she corrected Kaling for referring to her as “Meghan Markle.” At the time, Meghan laughed off the comment, indicating her desire to be known by her new title, but her podcast debut showed a shift away from the “Sussex” name altogether.

In an unexpected twist, even the end credits of the podcast episode referred to Meghan simply as “Meghan,” leaving out both her surname and title. Promotional materials for the series follow suit, branding the show as Confessions of a Female Founder with Meghan, further emphasizing her choice to move away from the formal titles tied to her past.

This change in how Meghan presents herself comes amid an ongoing evolution of her public identity. In an interview with People just last month, Meghan reflected on the significance of the “Sussex” title, which she still holds dear. “It’s our shared name as a family… I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” she shared. “It’s a part of our love story,” she added, noting that her family—husband Harry and children Archie and Lili—share the “Sussex” name, which holds deep emotional significance for her.

Despite this, Meghan’s choice to drop both “Markle” and “Sussex” from her podcast introduction suggests a new chapter in her journey, one that emphasizes her personal and professional identity. The decision could be a reflection of her desire to carve out a more independent and individualistic role, distinct from the titles and public associations that have defined her in the past.

As Meghan continues to evolve in her public and private life, it remains to be seen how this shift will impact her future endeavors and how the public will respond to the rebranding of her image.
