In an exclusive interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the Something Beautiful singer reflected on her big win at the 2024 Grammy Awards — a milestone moment in her career.

She has been in the public eye for most of her life, but you may not really know the “Hannah Montana” actress who became a Grammy-winning pop star.

“I have spent a lot of time because I haven’t always been nominated and I haven’t always taken home an award,” Miley said.

The 32-year-old artist admitted that receiving the award felt like a validation of her craft. “It’s kind of like someone saying you’ve mastered your craft — or at least, that’s what it felt like,” she shared.

Despite the recognition, the Hannah Montana alum confessed that her motivation has never been about collecting trophies. “I enjoy making music whether anyone hears it or not,” she said. “I have hundreds of songs that nobody needs to or will ever maybe hear — it’s the joy of creation that drives me.”

Why the Grammy Wasn’t Her Goal

Cyrus admitted that while she was thrilled to be honored, she never wanted awards to define her artistry or distract her from her true purpose. “I was worried about getting a Grammy because I didn’t want it to detour me,” she explained. “I never expected to get one.”

Her hit single Flowers, which earned her the Grammy for Record of the Year, turned out to be a defining moment — not just for her career, but also for her fans. “I never expected Flowers to really be successful,” she said. “But when a song becomes something bigger than yourself, it’s kind of a legacy record.”

Finding Fulfillment Beyond Recognition

Cyrus revealed that much of her creative satisfaction comes from storytelling and connecting emotionally through her songs — not necessarily from fame or accolades. “The celebration you see in the music video and at the Grammys — that’s as honest as it could be,” she added.

The Last Song actress emphasized that while awards can feel validating, true fulfillment comes from passion and authenticity. “Somewhere, it mattered — and I got to be excited for that moment,” she reflected.

Miley’s words serve as a reminder that while recognition is rewarding, the real success lies in the joy of creation and the ability to connect with others through music.
