In a recent interview, Priscilla Presley’s son, Navarone Garibaldi Garcia, clarified the rumors suggesting his mother played a pivotal role in resurrecting Tom Cruise’s movie career in 2006.
The discussion with Aaron Smith-Levin delved into the past, particularly Sumner M. Redstone’s decision, as then-chairman of Viacom, to terminate Paramount Pictures’ 14-year partnership with Cruise’s production company, a move that occurred almost 30 years ago. Speculation had arisen that Priscilla Presley was instrumental in helping Cruise make a comeback in the entertainment industry.
Redstone’s statement at the time, reported by The Wall Street Journal, reflected his concerns: “As much as we like Tom Cruise personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal. His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount.”
Cruise’s representative, however, disputed any claims of dismissal, despite Paramount and Redstone distancing themselves from the actor due to his behavior.
Amid the swirling reports that Priscilla Presley had a role in saving Cruise’s career, Navarone Garibaldi Garcia emphatically dismissed such suggestions as “baseless.” He also revealed that his mother may not hold a particularly favorable opinion of Tom Cruise, stating, “I don’t think my mom likes Tom Cruise very much.”
During the interview, Garcia shared that his mother had distanced herself from Scientology between 2012 and 2013, primarily after a confrontation involving her daughter, the late Lisa Marie, and David Miscavige in Florida.
