Is Netflix Fallout Driving Harry and Meghan Back to the Palace for Financial Support?

Speculation about possible reconciliation between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the royal family has intensified following reports of senior aides from both the Sussex camp and King Charles meeting in London.

Royal commentator Robert Jobson suggested that these discussions could be connected to the upcoming end of the Sussexes’ lucrative Netflix deal. Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, Jobson hinted that the couple might be seeking financial support from the King amid concerns about their future income.

“Well, the deal was always set about $100 million, wasn’t it? Where does it leave them? Probably with a bit of a bowl out, looking for some handouts. Maybe that’s why they were over here having discussions with the King, I don’t know,” Jobson explained.

Historically, Harry and Meghan had received support from both King Charles and the late Queen Elizabeth II as they transitioned away from official royal duties. However, recent setbacks such as the loss of their Spotify and Netflixcontracts have raised questions about how the couple plans to sustain their expensive lifestyle.

Prince Harry (center left), Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, join Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, at a service marking the centenary of the World War I armistice at Westminster Abbey on Nov. 11, 2018.

“They can’t rely on the spare money forever, can they?” Jobson added.

Sky News royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills, also on the show, emphasized the financial challenges the Sussexes face, noting:

“It’s just fascinating. They have this very expensive lifestyle. They have to pay for their security, pay for that big mansion. How do you kind of keep the money coming in?”

Reports earlier this month confirmed that Netflix will not renew the Sussexes’ multi-year deal, which expires in September 2025. The original contract, signed in September 2020, was valued at approximately $100 million and included various planned projects across different genres.

As the deal’s conclusion looms, the couple appears to be exploring new avenues, including potential discussions with the royal family, to secure their financial future and maintain their public presence.
