On Saturday, China began military drills around Taiwan, stating it was a serious warning to separatist forces in an expected rage response to a visit by Vice President, William Lai to the United States, attracting denunciation from the self-ruled island.
Lai, the favorite to become the president of Taiwan at next year’s election, returned home from the United States on Friday, where he officially created only stopovers on his way to and from Paraguay, though he gave speeches while in the country.
Despite the rage objections of the Taiwanese government, Beijing considers self-governed Taipei as its territory.
The People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command said in a statement that it was taking out mutual air and naval warfare willingness patrols around Taipei.
It added that it was also conducting joint drills and exercises of naval and air forces, concentrating on topics such as ship-aircraft coordination and taking dominion, to test the forces’ “authentic combat capacities”.
It added that these drills are serious warnings against Taipei freedom separatist forces conspiring with outer forces to prompt.
The defense ministry of Taiwan firmly denounced the exercises, saying it will send proper forces to respond and has the capacity, determination, and spirit to secure national protection.
