WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that American involvement in the escalating Iran-Israel conflict remains a possibility, though the United States is not currently participating in the military exchange. Speaking in a recent interview, Trump revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had expressed interest in mediating the dispute, noting they had an in-depth discussion on the matter.
“It’s possible we could get involved,” Trump told ABC News, while emphasizing that, for now, the United States is not engaged in any military operations in the region.
The tension between Iran and Israel has reached a critical point, with both sides trading deadly strikes over the weekend. According to Iranian reports, Israel launched a series of attacks targeting nuclear and military sites, killing high-ranking commanders and atomic scientists. In retaliation, Iran fired a wave of missiles, escalating the already volatile situation.
On Sunday, Israeli rescue workers were seen sifting through the rubble of bombed residential buildings in search of survivors. Local authorities confirmed that at least seven civilians, including children, had been killed in the latest round of hostilities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning, promising to continue targeting Iranian military infrastructure. “What Iran has seen so far is just the beginning,” Netanyahu stated, signaling a potential intensification of Israel’s offensive.
Meanwhile, Trump used his Truth Social platform to reaffirm that the United States was not involved in Israel’s operation against Iran. However, he issued a grave warning to Tehran:
“If we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the U.S. Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before.”
Trump also expressed confidence in the potential for peace talks between the two nations, saying, “We can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict.”
Earlier, he had urged Iran to consider a diplomatic resolution or face “even more brutal” repercussions from Israel.
It’s worth noting that during Trump’s presidency, he withdrew the U.S. from the Iran nuclear agreement in 2018, reimposing sanctions that many analysts say contributed to rising tensions in the region. The nuclear talks, which the Biden administration had hoped to resume, have reportedly been suspended following Israel’s recent military strikes.
As global powers watch closely, Trump’s openness to involving Russia as a mediator could signal a shift in how diplomatic efforts may unfold — if all parties agree to come to the table.
